The VIMS 2050 projection is based on analysis of the water observations over the past 40 years. This curve is referenced to NAVD88, or North American Vertical Datum of 1988. This is the fixed, land-based elevation datum typically used for houses and roads that does not change as sea level rises. Visit the VIMS Sea Level Report Cards for more information on the methods behind the VIMS 2050 projection analysis.
Model projections through 2100 by NOAA & USACE (US Army Corps of Engineers) are provided for comparison. Information about the NOAA & USACE projections can be found in Rivers & Coast, Summer 2018.
